Function The Editorial Office of the RIdIM database, located at The Ohio State University Music/Dance Library, is engaged in the following activities:

  • Providing editorial oversight of the RIdIM database, in consultation with the Commission Mixte and the Chief Technical Officer, encompassing quality control, metadata standards and maintaining controlled lists of names, places and terms
  • Communicating with RIdIM cataloguers worldwide to provide training and guidance
  • Creating and revising documentation to support RIdIM cataloguing
  • Entering records in the RIdIM database, including data from catalogue cards compiled by RIdIM researchers in the 1970s and 80s, updated with newly verified information whenever possible
  • Testing and providing feedback for the ongoing development of the database

History The Editorial Office originated at The Ohio State University in early 2004 as a test bed for the development of the RIdIM database, and was appointed as the central editing operation at the first meeting of the newly formed RIdIM Commission Mixte later that year. The Office is directed by professional staff holding advanced degrees in library science and musicology, with the assistance of graduate students in related disciplines and access to extensive reference materials in the Music/Dance Library, the nearby Fine Arts Library and online.
