Function
The International Center maintains the animation and the coordination of a scientific network between the different research centers involved with musical iconography throughout the world. The International Center works as central desk of RIdIM.
Its administrator establishes and maintains links with research centers, iconographical archives and all institutions or private researchers concerned with musical iconography, but also links with the sponsoring organisations (IAML, IMS, CIMCIM, ICOM).
The International Center is also...
1) A center for advice and help:
- for organizing workgroups
- for the cataloguing systems methodology (in connection with RISM and RILM)
- for members and partners that are looking for financing
2) A source of information thanks to:
- the publication of a newsletter which provides information about the activities of the Commission Mixte and about the state of research in musical iconography
- a documentation about centers and researchers throughout the world
- a website
History
The RIdIM International Center has been founded in December 2004 by the RIdIM Commission Mixte, the Institut de Recherche sur le Patrimoine musical en France (IRPMF, Paris) and the Institut National d’Histoire de l’Art (INHA, Paris).
The International Center is accommodated by the INHA within its study and research department. INHA is a place for studying, meeting and exchanging in the field of art history. It houses a reference library and a department of study and research.
